What has come to be known as “The Serenity Prayer” was penned originally by Reinhold Niebuhr, a Lutheran theologian from a tiny town west of St Louis, MO. This prayer came along in the early 1930’s, a time known now as the Great Depression.
At HealthSense we are blessed to serve survivors of that terrible time, and it’s aftermath, WWII. I believe there is nothing we have experienced, at least in my lifetime, that comes close to the suffering our country faced between 1930 and 1950.
Yet even in such despair and grief, this timeless prayer found its way into our culture and can help us put things into perspective:
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.”
Know you are blessed,
