So, why is it so hard for us to let others make their own choices? Ego. Our own ego would rather argue than agree. When the ego is in charge it will run a thousand scenarios through our mind showing how we are right and the other person is wrong. Then it becomes personal, as if our own importance matters more than the other person’s right to choose. When that happens, our own ego has locked us up and thrown away the key.
Let’s keep in mind that suffering is a catalyst for change. If people don’t suffer they never learn what hope is. To remove all suffering robs us from becoming who we are meant to become. As Brené Brown says, “The dark does not destroy the light; it defines it. It's our fear of the dark that casts our joy into the shadows.”
