God didn’t lose anything by wrestling Jacob (Gen 32:25). Jacob didn’t actually beat God. Jacob wins because he couldn’t grapple with something without being near it, in it, on it. When we wrestle with our understanding of God I think we get more of the Creator on us and in us. In Jacob's case he got new name, Israel, which became the name of the whole Jewish people. The problem became a blessing.
And that is what Jesus wanted his disciples to know (John 14:27). There is something beyond the suffering and pain. There is Hope. Jesus did not offer strength because we would use strength and power unwisely. In our human fear we would not know how to use armor, “I do not give you as the world gives”. So he left us with his own peace. With his knowledge of what is to come he lovingly told us how to prepare for it. Find peace, become peace, live in peace.
Know you are blessed,
