Do you have unused books or magazines laying around your place? How about donating them to some veterans? Every weekday there are hundreds of veterans passing time, waiting for their next appointment at the new VA Community Medical Center on Metropolis; just 11 miles south of our office, right off 183 by the airport.
As an integral member of the Central Texas Hospice Veteran Partnership, we are joining other local hospices in the We Honor Veterans program in a book drive to provide reading materials for those vets who are simply waiting for their next appointment, for a ride home, or for the medications that have been prescribed to them. I’m a vet who uses that facility sometimes – and it’s boring!
So we are going to do two good things:
1. We’re going to help you get rid of some of those books you’ve been meaning to shed.
2. You’re going to help a veteran get through their day a bit better.
This isn’t limited to HealthSense employees. This is open to anyone who wants to make a contribution. We will have flyers for field staff to take to patients—they may want to help too! Bring the books you collect to the visitors waiting area. We’ll have boxes there to place your books in.
The last day of this book drive is Thursday, March 11. All the books we collect will be delivered to the VA facility on March 12 where we will meet the other hospices participating in the drive.
Know you are blessed,
